Almost right at the same time I had a pair of BNSF trains meeting on the other side of the river. However, something on US 20 east was causing a major slowdown and traffic was at a hault on the bridge. I had already committed so I had no way to turn around. Thankfully, I was able to find a small gap and get turned around before making a complete turn onto the bridge. But, that wasnt good enough, as my stack train had already passed southbound, and the northbound sand train, U-EOSEFC0-07 was approaching fast northbound. I made a dash on US 61 north into Wisconsin, and only made it in time for the DPU at the Eagle Lane Road overpass south of Rutledge. Oh well. Cant win them all. |

By the time I was coming back from Wisconsin, I got a call from Dad saying he was on his way back. When he made it back to the hotel we dropped off the rental car. I had eaten lunch at Arbys already, but he had not eaten at all so we went down to Culvers to get him some lunch. We went back to the room to eat, and finally while eating the rain began to slow down. After he was done since the rain wasnt pouring anymore, we decided to head back out. BNSF had a few trains to send through East Dubuque so thats where we went first. A few large puddles had formed beside the tracks which provided for some cool new angles. Not much waiting went by before Z-SSECHC8-30 rolled by our cameras. |

While we were back in the room, CN M338 came into town and began doing their work. They were beginning to finish up when we were on the other side of the river, and with BNSF not having anything else nearby, we went back across the river. M338 was recrewed and keyed up the bridge tender to come across. A nice all EMD lashup on M338, including 2 SD70M-2s, a SD75I, and the GTW GP38-2 that was on the local this morning. The train slowly creeps by the former IC depot in town as it makes its way toward Chicago. |

Once CN was completely clear of Dubuque, CP lined a northbound through town. This trip definitely has not disappointed when its come to great catches. A ballast train extra rolls north through town with a solo KCS SD70MAC on the front. Never heard the symbol for this one, but my guess is it was a BAL symbol of some sort. The Hotel Julien sits to the right of the train and made for a good object to frame the unique train with. I shot a ballast train similar to this one on my second visit here with my dad a few years back with a SD60 leading. A majority of the SD70MACs have been relegated to MOW or local service. Definitely a far cry from the trains they were designed to handle, but at least theyre still out running and not shards of metal. |

BNSF began sending more trains so it was back to the other side of the river. Unfortunately, as the CP ballast train was running through, the H1 Dash 9 that was leading the tied down grain train left. It was really unfortunate we couldnt see both of them. But, the KCS SD70MACs are probably in more danger, so it was the right choice to shoot it over the grain train. The next train on BNSF, despite it just having a GEVO leader, was pretty unique too; an empty windmill blade train symboled U-NOYBTX1-30. Definitely would have been cool to see it loaded, but still a pretty neat train regardless. |

CN M337 was following right behind CN U705 all the way from Chicago, but since U705 would be getting a new crew in Dubuque, M337 had to hold back on the Illinois Side. The light was quickly disappearing so we moved back to the water tower where we managed to get an okay shot of the train creeping up to CP Bishop. This would be the final train of the day. Another fantastic day of trains! However, the trip to Iowa now becomes the trip home from Iowa as tomorrow will be the final day. Its been a blast. One more day! |

So, instead of following CP to Clinton like we did in November when we had less daylight to work with, we decided to follow BNSF back instead. We grabbed some breakfast and checked out of the hotel. Almost immediately upon crossing the river, BNSF was sending southbound Q-PTLCHC6-29 through. We got down to the crossing in East Dubuque just in time. |

We decided to move south to the water tower crossing. CN once again made pretty quick work down by Bishop and were ready to head back north. IC 9622 was dropped off by M338 yesterday so it was nice to get a different unit up front on the local. Especially one that was short hood forward. |
