IC 3101
Title:  IC 3101
Description:  After the Z train, the bridge tender and BNSF La Crosse gave permission to CN L586 to come across the river and do their work at Bishop. Even though I had shot the IC 3101 coming through the tunnel yesterday, Dad had not, so thats where we shot the local. I went with something a little different though, grabbing a wider angle shot of the train already out of the tunnel.

BNSF 1053
Title:  BNSF 1053
Description:  A H1 Dash 9 brings up the rear of the manifest, unfortunately nose in. This would have made up for missing the grain train with the H1 yesterday. Oh well, this will have to do!

IC 9622
Title:  IC 9622
Description:  We decided to move south to the water tower crossing. CN once again made pretty quick work down by Bishop and were ready to head back north. IC 9622 was dropped off by M338 yesterday so it was nice to get a different unit up front on the local. Especially one that was short hood forward.

BNSF 7717
Title:  BNSF 7717
Description:  Despite the gap between northbound trains being pretty small, we decided to continue southward toward Galena when we noticed that the next northbound would be waiting on the last southbound at Galena Junction. We drove down to the Galena Boat Ramp as quickly as we could (that is the only grade crossing on the Aurora Subdivision in Galena) and made it just in time to grab U-CKBSWE1-01, an iron ore train, scream up the grade out of Galena Junction. All 3 BNSF paint schemes were on this train, including a rarer H2 GEVO on the front. A really neat boat sitting to the left of the tracks made for a nice object to frame the train with.

BNSF 8480
Title:  BNSF 8480
Description:  While after the iron ore train things began to cool off, there was still another northbound out there. Despite Savanna still being a pretty long haul from Galena, we made the dash south and went up to Lookout Point at Palisades Park on the north side of town. Thankfully, a CP local working the yard was stretched across the diamond which gave us time to get up there. Once the CP cleared, BNSF U-EOCMNU0-23 began its northward trip following the Mississippi River with a SD70ACe leader.

BNSF 6733
Title:  BNSF 6733
Description:  The original plan was to follow the Barstow Subdivision down to the UP at Fulton, but with nothing on the Barstow for miles in each direction, we decided to keep with the Aurora Sub. A pair of autorack trains were heading each direction. We decided to stop in Chadwich for the eastbound. After some waiting, BNSF V-LAWLPC1-01 came screaming through town.

BNSF 4243
Title:  BNSF 4243
Description:  BNSF 4243 brings up the rear of the autorack train. The Chadwick grain elevator sits off the tracks to the left of this frame, and I was trying to go for a wide angle shot at first. But I severely misjudged where the elevator was when I started shooting, so I had to go with this pretty crappy telephoto shot of the train rounding the curve.

BNSF 7747
Title:  BNSF 7747
Description:  After meeting LAWLPC1-01 at Milledgeville, BNSF V-BLUMAN3-31 exited the siding and continued west. We grabbed it passing Livengood Beef Farm on the Ideal Road overpass west of town.

UP 9003
Title:  UP 9003
Description:  Little did we know it when we were in town, but following the Aurora Sub ended up being a very costly mistake, as CPs Weed Control train was headed east on the Chicago Subdivision with a KCS Geep solo. Unfortunately, by the time we knew about it, it was too late and there was no point in going back. With no more trains for miles on the Aurora Subdivision, we decided to head south to the UP at Sterling. When we got to Sterling there was nothing but silence, so we stopped at Hardees for lunch. After lunch, we made our way east to Nelson. Green signals on both mains greeted us, but so did a parked ballast train on the Peoria side with mostly C&NW hoppers. Neat.

UP 6153
Title:  UP 6153
Description:  Our eastbound showed first. A short MCBCH passes underneath the coaling tower at Nelson with a solo rebuilt AC4400CW on the front. Unfortunately, a long string of stored well cars was on the track furthest to the south, so I had to settle for this awkward shot of the train to try to block out the sun.

UP 8200
Title:  UP 8200
Description:  We didnt run into any more trains until Flagg, where we heard a westbound manifest key up the yard and tell them they were ready to go. So, we grabbed a shot of the train passing the elevator at Flagg, this time from the other side. I think this might be the only shot I have of a train passing the elevator going west.

Title:  UP 6153
Description:  MCBCHs work at G3 didnt take super long and by the time we left the Rochelle area they were already on their way west. So, we decided to get a shot of it coming under the other coaling tower at Dekalb. The same train under both coaling towers on the Geneva Sub. Neat.

UP 7791
Title:  UP 7791
Description:  There were no more trains until we got into Metra territory. We knew we had a westbound freight and a westbound Metra coming. The freight began experiencing issues midway through the train, so we were worried we wouldnt see it. But, dispatch asked if they could drag it to Rochelle to inspect the problem further there at restricted speed. We sat up at the depot in Gevena and grabbed the very long and slow westbound intermodal marching through town.

Description:  The sun had now set on the final day of the trip, but of course, UP had trains to send through. So, we decided to stop by JB to grab them before it got too dark. UP ZSCG2 was the first to show up eastbound. My camera did not cooperate with me at all on this shot.
