Title:  Coming and going at Thompsontown, Part II
Description:  NS 9636 at a popular viewpoint. There was once an ornate steel trestle c`rrying PA Route 333 over the Juniata here; now replaced with a concrete slab. It would have been a great time to catch a westbound.

Felicity at Forge
Title:  Felicity at Forge
Description:  Sipping coffee, enjoying a Tasty Pie and how pleasant for a nice eastbound manifest to show on a pleasant autumn morning. Forge Block Station used to sit on the opposite side of the tracks near the radio antenna, and was an interlocking where the railroad opened up to a four-track mainline once more after a constricted triple track segment through Spruce Creek valley.

Identity crisis
Title:  Identity crisis
Description:  I suspect many roads in years past effected a unique signal system as much for promulgating their individual identity as anything. B&O sure got it right in their classic CPLs. A shame bottom line economics wipes out esthetics and heritage in its inexorable march.

More endangered species
Title:  More endangered species
Description:  The former C&O in Ohio is a bastion for that roads unique signal system - a system that seemed to place signals in profusion. I traveled by night from Magnolia, WV to Vaunces, OH with the hope of photographing some of C&Os classic signals, however, there was a strong front moving in and, although mild, the skies were overcast. CSX 5119 has empty coal cars returning to the Appalachian mines.

Lucky 8783
Title:  Lucky 8783
Description:  I stopped for awhile in Crawfordsville although I have had dismal luck in catching any traffic passing the old Monon blades - perhaps the last blades on a Class One? I waited awhile, then some more and when the sun was gone behind the storm front clouds I lingered awhile longer. Do you know the routine? I was almost ready to kick the ignition when I heard a horn. Could it be? And then the southbound blade dropped to stop and this ethanol train whistled through town. Blades are cool!
