Description:  Former L&N U23B 2810 was working as the FLOMATON SWITCHER at the north end of the Seaboard System's Flomaton yard. The coal tower was built in 1943 and stradles the two main tracks, but it saw less than ten years of use before steam disappeared from this part of the L&N.

The photo was taken from the Burlington Northern (ex-Frisco) overpass, and the tracks on the left are the SBD-BN interchange. No. 601 originated in Jacksonville and will be delivered to the Southern Pacific at New Orleans.

No. 606 is a New Orleans-Jacksonville train, with traffic from the Union Pacific (MP). Today's train has U30B 5531, U36B 5752, B23-7 5108, U36B 5777 and U30B 5527. No. 601, headed from Jacksonville to the Espee at New Orleans, is waiting in the siding.

Description:  After running under Centralized Traffic Control from Mobile, the head-end crew on Seaboard System train No. 606 gets their clearance form and orders as they curve onto the unsignaled "Dispatcher's Manual Block" territory to Pensacola and beyond. No. 606 is a New Orleans-Jacksonville train, with traffic off of the UP (MP). The five GE's on today's train are U30B 5531, U36B 5752, B23-7 5108, U36B 5777 and U30B 5527.

Description:  Seaboard System No. 522 arrives in Flomaton, Alabama for a meet with two southbound trains. It's locomotives are GP40 6742 and GP16 4627. The track on the left is the beginning of the PD Subdivision to Pensacola. No. 522, and its southbound counterpart 523, were daily jobs between Mobile and Montgomery. Known on the M&M Sub-Division as the "House Freights," they normally performed setouts and pickups at Georgiana, Brewton, Flomaton and Bay Minette.

On the right was the Flomaton Switcher, U23B 2810, and visible above the switcher's cab was the concrete coaling tower which straddles the two main tracks.

The date on the bridge pier reads 1927, and bridge still displays a FRISCO LINES coonskin emblem. The train has a pair of SD45-2's in Clinchfield black (3612, 3617), SD45 2018 in Seaboard Sytem paint, 45 cars, and L&N caboose 6196.

Description:  Well-weathered Seaboard System U30B 5540 was leading the southbound STELLA TURN through the siding at Gonzalez, for a meet with No. 605. This 6-day local originated at Goulding Yard in Pensacola, and was returning home. The train's primary purpose was switching and lining up cars at the paper mill at Cantonment and interchange with the Frisco. Stella is the next station north of Cantonment; however, the train seldom went that far unless it had business at the small woodyard that used to be located there.
