The top photo was taken by Sandy Goodrick in 1951 on the CR400S bridge that used to pass over the tracks. There used to be a jog in the road, where it now is CR 1550 E. A road bridge came across perpendicularly to the tracks, rather than an angled bridge, which would be required now. The bridge was removed in 1984 after the tracks were removed, the ROW was filled in,9and the road was straightened. On the bottom is the exact same location on October 20, 2015, believe it or not. |

Here we have an incredible Erie Railroad in Youngstown photo taken almost 75 years ago to this day! Its September 12, 1941 as this westbound Erie passenger train pauses downtown. The fireman is standing on the tender of Erie K-5 #2924 taking on water with the original St. Columba Cathedral looking over on top of the hill. Everything in this photo is gone. What looks to be six tracks in this photo - all gone today. St. Columba is gone as well, suffering a fire from a lightning strike in 1954.
