LI 612
Title:  LI 612
Description:  A Long Island push-pull commuter train passes the picturesque Mill Neck depot on the Oyster Bay branch. I always thought this depot would have looked right at home in the UK. It was closed by the railroad 3/16/1998 and now houses a post office and police substation. Looks like Dave borrowed his Mom's '66 Pontiac Bonneville for this photo expedition. LI 612 was ex-BN 4100, nee-SP&S 856. Date of photo approximate.

FA rolls west
Title:  FA rolls west
Description:  An FA leads this inbound Ronkonkoma train. The unit number is stenciled on the nose, another of the many variations of the LIRR paint scheme. The station at Farmingdale, seen at right in the background, was an attractive brick structure that seemed too big for the ridership the station handled. The electrification project is well along here, with a new high level platform and third rail installed, and a new signal bridge for a yet to be installed interlocking.

Out behind the barn
Title:  Out behind the barn
Description:  This FA has been pushed off into exile, where the dead power winds up. Dont know if this unit ever ran again-it looks like it had a fire. There were a few that disappeared for a while-sometimes months-only to show up again later. By this time, all four of the ex MILW and B&O F units were running, and the more marginal FAs were going into storage. The completion of the electrification to Ronkonkoma would spell the end for a number of these classics in a few months.
