Title:  IC 9571
Description:  The 9571 works the Neenah yard from the north end. The Winneconne overpass crosses the tracks here now, but not too long ago, the crossing was at grade. Winneconne Avenue was protected by lights, gates and had a manned elevated tower due to the frequent moves made across the grade crossing. This was the first overpass of three put in to avoid delays in road traffic.

Description:  CN local passes a halted container train on the west leg of the wye as it returns to the former SOO yard at Neenah, WI on 12 Mar. '15. The local might have been returning from Shawano. The remnants of the foundation from the ca. 1955 masonry SOO depot are on the other side of the train. There are rail sections supported by concrete blocks and railroad ties stacked upon it. It was built to replace the wooden depot built in 1891 on Sherry St., about 850 ft. to the southeast, which was torn down soon after the new one opened.

Description:  CN local picks up some empty flat cars from the small yard adjacent to the massive Briess Malt & Ingredients Co. facility via former C&NW rails at Manitowoc, WI on 17 Apr. '15. Briess purchased the facility from Busch Agricultural Resources, Inc. in 2014, after it had been idle since 2011. It was started by the Rahr brewing family in 1847. They owned it until the Rahr Malting Co., a.k.a. Manitowoc Malting Plant, was sold to Anheuser-Busch in 1962. While the west side is adorned with familiar Budweiser bottles and cans today, it was adorned with Kingsbury beer logos when I was a kid. The tracks in the foreground are remnants of the small yard that used to service one of two car ferries that used to tie up at Manitowoc, the slip is out of frame to right. This particular ferry still runs, but it no longer carries rail cars across the floating section of US 10 between Wisconsin and Michigan.

Description:  Two units work the former CNW line from Appleton Junction to Kaukauna South, which now ends\here in Combined Locks at the Appvion paper mill. This facility is the Appleton Coated Papers mill. The mill is switched on two sides by the railroad, which had enough business to warrant a small yard on the opposite side from this location. Most of those tracks are now gone, as it waqs probaely used in conjunction with switching the closed NuPage (Kimberly Clark) mill in Kimberly. The modern Wisconsin Central had enough business on this line to actually station a crew down in this river valley.
