MON GE U23B #606 Monon RR |
Description: |
Built by GE in April of 1970, this loco didn't get a chance to serve the Monon Railroad for very long before the 1971 merger with Louisville & Nashville, It then went though several renumberings - L&N 2705, SBD 2705, SBD 3235, CSX 3235. The loco was finally retired in April of 1991. Mont Switzer caught it at the Lafayette Shops a day afterv the July, 1971 merger with L&N had taken place. This might be the very first photo of it as an official L&N locomotive but still wearing the beautiful Monon paint. |
