Paved paradise |
Description: |
And put the station in a parking lot, to paraphrase Joni Mitchell. The DLW station in Vestal, unused since the 1959 consolidation of facilities with the Erie, which moved all the DLW trains to the Erie side through Endicott, is now in the parking lot of the Vestal Library, where it remains as a museum. The right of way from just west of here to Town Square Mall is now a trail; west of Vestal, much of it is part of NY 17 as far west as Elmira. |

Bearing down |

The local is now passing the home signal at CP North Watts. It will take the main south past CP South Watts, since there is a northbound empty grain train waiting on a crew in the siding. Hell work the south end, putting away the 36 cars collected during the days work. The grain train wont get out before I give up on it about two hours hence. |

Busy, busy |
Description: |
Watts is sometimes a busy place. We see the dodger, L 102, at right, working the yard. What would usually be his third unit is peeking out from behind the relay case at right. At left is the southbound H train, holding the main as he waits his turn at the yard. Behind the dodger is the tail end of the northbound grain train, whose crew now cant get on because the H train is blocking the power. It was a mess. |
