Carter Buchanan General Cool shot and great album on this former route. What is the searchlight looking signal for next to the signal case? I've seen this at other locations on the former SAL but cannot figure them out. 7/14/2008 5:18:18 PM
Eugene Cain General The Signal here is a "Return to Train" indicator used by the SAL but phased out by SCL years ago. Most were just left in place although they nolonger functioned. The Indicator was a white light which allowed Locomotives to "Return" to their train without having to call the Dispatcher to see if the intersecting line was clear. I do not know why SCL phased them out. The Dupont Sub looks to be in excellent shape here....the reason for abandonment???? Thinking too much before acting!!!! All the Trains that once ran here now go down the Jesup-Nahunta Sub through Folkston, Georgia making that a busy route. This abandonment made no sense at all. This Picture is timeless. Thanks for posting these David!!!! 3/31/2011 12:44:27 PM
