Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad F7 167A eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on October 9, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in May 1950 (c/n 9696) on EMD Order 3058A, this was one of six F7A's on this order, one of only 10 F7A's purchased by the CB&Q. The CB&Q also purchased three F7B's (EMD Order 3058B) to make up three pure F7 A-B-A drawbar-connected locomotives 167-169. During the 1960's, the F7 sets were broken up, the drawbars were replaced with couplers, and suffix letters were added to the numberboards and painted on the nose. This particular locomotive set received this modification sometime between October 1964 and October 1965. I'm not sure of the exact date the suffix letter was added, but I previously photographed this locomotive without suffix letters a year before this photo date. |
