North Carolina Daywalker General Road many miles in 76 as brakeman, fireman and conductor while at L&S. Most memorable run was a pull from Raeford to Dixie with 54 cars of coal, Jerry McNeill, engineer started out laying sand as we pulled out onto the A&R to couple up. They had saved the air so it was up to me to carefully couple up, connect air lines and slowly open air valves. We left Raeford for Dixie. Jerry got the throttle opened up and never let off until we got to Lbg behind the cemetery, the load pushed all the way to Dixie to the waiting CSX crew. Mr Jones had section crew and mechanics and any one else on crossing so we would not have to slow down. As I crossed the intersection in Wagram, the breeze had the legs of my jeans whipping like a flag in a hurricane. Those coal train days were really fun. 4/4/2013 9:16:12 PM
