PRR "Number 5244," Page 13, 1959
Here is page one of a five-page camera study by David Plowden entitled "Number 5244: The Pennsy's Last Active Steamer." It was published originally in the December 1959 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 13. Partial Caption: "Pennsylvania Railroad, which did more than any other road to develop the steam locomotive, no longer has any live steam power. Except for museum pieces and a very few serviceable engines held in storage, the lone survivor of a great heritage is No. 5244, an 0-6-0, Class B-6SB, built at Juniata shops in 1916, leased in her old age to Union Transportation Co., and shown here at Cream Ridge, N.J." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5244, a B-6SB (0-6-0) switcher built in Juniata during February of 1916 and retired in July of 1979.
