Scenic view on the old LV  Contributor's Pick!
The LV stayed pretty much intact east of Sayre PA, though between there and Allentown there was not much traffic after Conrail started. West of there, much of the railroad was pulled up, except for a few sections here and there. Probably the most important was what became the Ithaca Branch under Conrail, the line from Sayre up through Van Etten Jct, then on to Ithaca. It served a NYSEG generating station at Milliken, and an adjacent Cargill salt mine, as well as some local customers in Ithaca. Sometimes cars for the uplake customers would be combined, which is what we see here. A salt block is head out, with about 90 coal hoppers behind. It will tie up traffic in Ithaca for 20 minutes when it rolls through town.
