Fred Stuckmann General Saw the rest finally, great pictures sir, 5/9/2013 6:11:47 AM
John Sheridan General This picture was taken at Shopton, Iowa (Fort Madison). My father was a locomotive engineer and took me as an 8 year old up into its cab. At that ime the 3425 was inf front of it and the 2439 behind. This pic show a 4100 tender behind the 3420 so I think it was taken between 1953 and 1955; probably the earlier date. 9/30/2013 8:32:54 PM
John Sheridan General I meant 3429 not 2429. 9/30/2013 8:33:50 PM
John Sheridan General It was built by Baldwin in 1923 for passenger service. My dad told me it was the last steam engine to operate out of Shopton on a local, and it was the last engine there to be sent out to scrap. I know because I was down there every day during that time and saw it in the roundhouse when the removed the driver and bolted them on to the cat walk. Somewhere I have a photo of it in the yards as it was waiting to be taken away. 9/30/2013 8:38:31 PM
