So this is the EL in Akron.  Contributor's Pick!
Picture high priority UPS westbounds, coal, ore, merchandise, high wides, empties, loads, locals, yard jobs, etc. all using this track daily. With a few keystrokes, it was all evaporated. Was it all Conrail's fault? No, EL often shot itself in the foot. However, I am proud to know that when the book was finished and the last chapter was written, the EL had paid off every last cent of it's debt. That was my EL.

Tom Beckett General It is hard to take. I was out in Indiana a couple of years ago, where the Erie main crossed US 421. It was the Erie Western for a brief season around 1980, then abandoned. Thirty years later, you're hard pressed to find the right of way at all-and there are places near Disko and Leiters Ford where it's just plowed under. I think of places like RU in Sterling where 2NY100 and CX99 used to bang over the B&O at 50 per, it's hard to realized it's all gone now. It's a very lonely feeling to stand on an old right of way and know that it's gone, just gone, and ain't coming back. 12/27/2014 2:37:15 AM
Peider SwissTrip General As for human beings one day the day comes, when you are entitled to rest in peace. Nice picture, who shows everything goes back to nature (where it came from). Regards Peider 12/27/2014 5:48:43 AM
Jim Ford General The old year passes, the new year comes. Thanks for taking us along, Fred. 12/27/2014 10:19:53 AM
John Teeter General I, too, remember the old EL through Indiana [Laketon, Servia, Disko, etc.]. I am happy to report that the old line from the Laketon refinery to the NS interchange at Bolivar has been reconstructed and is in use. 12/27/2014 2:49:56 PM
Robert Farkas General Sleep well, faithful friend. 12/27/2014 5:01:29 PM
