As Conrail started to get a handle on their operatons, some cars quickly became hard to find, especially those from the smaller component roads with smaller fleets. The larger roads-EL, PC, and to an extent, Reading-had fairly modern equipment, many cars built in the 1970s. The LV and CNJ had mostly aging cars, and much smaller fleets. These were rationalized early, and after the first few years, it was a real challenge to find CNJ or LV cars. This LV box was on the D&H, still making a few more pennies for CR before being sent to the bone yard. Note the D&H gon to the left. Those are now a memory as well. |
