PRR 24th Street Turntable, c. 1933
AW. Here is an image of a photo by Arlington J. Wolfe that was taken at the Pennsylvania Railroad's 24th Street Turntable in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1933. It was used to turn locomotives returning to Altoona after making helper/pusher runs up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Visible in the middle distance are several engines awaiting their next assignments. In the far distance are two structures and twin smokestacks belonging to the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops.
