PRR 1071, I-1SA, #4 of 4, c. 1953
Here is the fourth of four original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken just East of the 17th Street Bridge in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1071, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built in Juniata as an I-1S during November of 1918, rebuilt as an I-1SA in June of 1941, and retired in August of 1959 after 41 years of revenue service. In the background is the southwestern face of the 50-stall East Altoona Roundhouse; to the left of it are the two Roundhouse water towers. In the foreground is the creek bed for the northern branch of the Juniata River on its merry way to Tyrone and points East.
