Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 9 July 1950. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6167, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during March of 1944 and retired in February of 1960 after just 16 years of revenue service. Note the Head-End Brakeman leaning against the "doghouse," waving to visitors at the Curve! Gary Mittner Collection. |
