| Interesting hot metal car ("torpedo" car to some) on its way back to the former Inland Steel plant (now Arcelor-Mittal) in East Chicago, Indiana This is one of the last remaining spots to see these cars outside of a steel plant. The hot molten steel is shipped from the Arcelor-Mittal plant to the finishing plant in Riverdale, IL. The 2 to 6 car hot metal train usually has spacer gondolas between the cars to spread the weight. Not this time. |
