Chicago, South Shore & South Bend ROW West
This is a western view of the Chicago, South Shore and South Bend right of way in downtown Gary, IN. I can't quite figure out exactly where this was taken. Could be that this area was changed when the Adam Benjamin Transportation Center was built next to the trakcs. I scanned this image from the original negative taken by Lawrence H. Boehning.

Tom Beckett General I'm not familiar enough with the area to hazard a guess, but I will go out on a limb to say the roadway next to the South Shore is the Indiana Toll Road, which would have been new at the time-I think it opened around 1955. Check out the Greyhound Scenicruiser on the Toll Road. That's as much a part of history as the South Shore interurban cars. 2/9/2024 4:26:34 AM
