Why Cross Here? (Alternate Routes)
This slightly blurred (it was misting) photo illustrates my "alternate route" theory -- that people often take the route through train tracks when there are easier, non-railroad property routes available. There is absolutely no point of anyone being down where these folks were. On either side of this bridge over Interstate 20, there are safe overpasses for cars with sidewalks. Moreover, there is nothing behind these folks other than three tracks with high brush on either side. Yet, I see people using this three track line as a shortcut. Problems: (1) to the left just out of photo range ruffians hang out drinking (and who knows what else) under the overpass from which I shot this picture. There literally is a six foot deep pile of their trash, consisting mostly of liquor bottles and beer cans. (2) The obvious - you're standing in the middle of a three track main line. (3) There is no way out to the left without going across the bridge and only a difficult way to the right.
