Description:  Altoona Action. Here is the first of two successive duplicate 35mm color slides via Al Chione that were taken at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in March of 1948. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5756 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are AP-20's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5756 was built in November of 1947, later regeared for freight service and reclassified as an AFP-20, and retired in September of 1962 after just 15 years of revenue service. They've stopped under the 12th Street Footbridge with an eastbound passenger train, and are presently changing crews and discharging & picking-up passengers at the Station. Note that the water tank in the second unit is being refilled.

Description:  AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Bill Price that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 13 August 1951. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5756 and two more units whose numbers are not recorded. All are AP-20's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5756 was constructed in November of 1947, later regeared for freight service and reclassified as an AFP-20, and retired in September of 1962 after just 15 years of revenue service. They are pulling a passenger train down the Allegheny Mountains and around the Curve on their way to Altoona, Harrisburg, and points East. The date is an approximation.

Description:  Northbound Coal. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Philip R. Hastings that was taken near Roaring Branch, Pennsylvania, on 5 May 1957. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4632, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during October of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in January of 1931, and retired in January of 1960. It's pushing a northbound coal train along with two PRR Diesel locomotives: #5756 and #5757. Both are AFP-20's built by the American Locomotive Company in November of 1947, rated at 2,000 horsepower each, and retired in September of 1962. Also visible is PRR N-5C cabin car #477859. Looking on is fellow photographer Jim Shaughnessy. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-11).
