ATSF 5605
HEMAN OK June 18 1979 -- Santa Fe SD45 5605 heads west with train 138. EMD built the 5605 as a Locotrol master (s/n 35010) in May 1969 and delivered it in blue with yellow ends and trim. It was repainted into yellow warbonnet after Aug 26 1972. It became the second unit to be painted in the proposed Southern Pacific-Santa Fe merger scheme in the first week of September 1985 when it was released from the San Bernardino shops as SPSF 5401. It was returned to yellow warbonnet before Jan 1 1991 with the failure of the merger, was retired in April 1995 but transferred to BNSF on Sept 22 1995 after the merger. It was patched BNSF and renumbered 6412 on Sept 19 1999 and was retired in April 1995. It was acquired by National Railway Equipment Co and became NREX 6412.
